A member of 20 professional organizations, Dr. Petty has won numerous awards over the years, including the University of Colorado’s Sliver and Gold Award of Excellence, the American Association for Respiratory Care’s Jimmy A. Young Medal, and the American Thoracic Society’s Distinguished Achievement Award. He is a Master Fellow (MCCP) of the American College of Chest Physicians and a Maser of the ACP (MACP).

In the 1990’s, Dr. Petty founded the National Lung Health Education Program to promote the early detection and treatment of chronic obstructive lung disease. Working closely with the AARC and the nation’s respiratory therapists, he continues to advocate for respiratory patients both here an abroad.
